Your reading is your own.

Gloss has no server. There is nowhere for your pages to go, even in principle.

Any question about this — including a request to delete something — goes to imhimanshu758@gmail.com, and is answered by the one person who wrote it.

What happens when you select a word

Everything happens on your computer. The dictionary is part of the extension — Princeton's WordNet, packaged into the extension itself — so it is read from the extension's own files and never downloaded. The matching runs in your browser, and the panel is drawn by the extension in the page you are reading.

Gloss makes no network requests. It works with your network switched off, which is the easiest way to see that it is true.

What is stored

One thing: the list of words you have looked up. It is kept in your browser's own local storage, on your device, and it is used for two things — to tell you "looked up before", and to stop the reading mode underlining words you already know. It is never sent anywhere, and you can clear it in the settings without clearing anything else.

What the extension can see

Only the page you are reading, and only the word you selected. It has no host permissions, so it cannot read other websites, and it has no access to your history, your bookmarks or your cookies.

This website

This page has no analytics and no cookies. The demo draws on your page and nothing else happens: the words are in memory, and they are gone when you close the tab.

Last changed: 20 October 2026. The same policy ships inside the extension as PRIVACY.md.
